One of the amazing things about the FFA organization is its diversity. From freshmen to seniors, and rural to urban, any one can be involved in FFA. Last fall the first year FFA members memorized the FFA Creed and competed in the chapter Creed Speaking competition. Quinn Christensen won the event and went onto represent Kuna, placing third overall in the Boise Valley District Creed CDE (Career Development Event) on February 3, 2010.
Brittany Ratliff will be representing the Boise Valley District in the Prepared Public Speaking CDE at the FFA State Leadership Conference in Twin Falls this April. Brittany wrote and memorized a six to eight minute speech on ‘Cap and Trade’. After presenting her speech to an audience and three judges, she answered several questions regarding her topic.
In the Extemporaneous Speaking CDE, Hannah Christensen drew a topic and then used her 100 page notebook of agricultural information to write a four to six minute speech. With only thirty minutes to prepare, she presented her speech in front of peers and three judges who also asked questions pertaining to her topic.
Katy Szatkowski was the Boise Valley District Star in Agriscience. Last summer, Katy worked at Northwest Nazarene University with a professor studying variables relating to Alzheimer’s disease. Bryce Hill will also be representing the Boise Valley District at the State Conference as the District Star in Agriculture Placement. Bryce has worked on his dad’s farm where they produce both hay and corn. Congratulations to all speakers and Star applicants for your great job and hard work.
