FFA students prepare canned food for delivery.
Even with the dismal economy, the Kuna community joined together and pulled off another successful Community canned food drive, serving 66 Kuna families who received books, food, and presents. The Kuna FFA chapter organized the event and sponsored a new fund raiser, Hats for Hunger, where they earned $120 from selling stickers that allowed students to wear their hat to school for a day. Kuna High School FCCLA purchased and wrapped gifts for each of the families. Kuna Educators Association donated $350 on top of 400 books for the families to promote reading. $100 was donated from the Dustin Curtis Memorial Fund as well as $900 from Kim Briggs and Syngenta employees. A loose change fund raiser, organized by the Kuna High School Cast members, raised $1,450 for the “Santa Project”. A special thank you to Ted Wimer with the Kuna Food Bank for his continued help in organizing the efforts to reach more families. Kuna Care team members did a fantastic job of getting names and addresses of families in need. The canned food drive wouldn’t have been a success with out the help of the elementary schools and the Kuna library for collecting the food. Students and parents did a wonderful job sorting and delivering the boxes to the families. And finally, thank you to Paul’s Market and everyone who donated their Paul’s points, allowing all 66 families to receive a turkey for the holidays. It truly was a community effort to make this event a success. Once again, thank you to everyone who helped with this amazing event.
