Kuna sent a state-winning Soils Evaluation team to Oklahoma the second week of May to the National Soils Career Development Event (CDE). This event is separated into two parts. The Landsite event challenges members to evaluate an area’s potential to grow crops or be worked. This takes into account the soil quality, how easy it is to move across the land, and the amount of water present. Kuna’s Landsite team included Brett Berheim, Kevin Brown, Anna Rodriguez, and Chris Ball. In the Homesite event, members must assess an area’s capability to be livable. This includes the level of ease it would be to integrate things such as a foundation and a lawn. Kuna’s Homesite team won 12th in the nation and consisted of Brett Blackstock, Kevin Brown, Anna Rodriguez, and Chris Ball. After doing very well in their CDE, members rounded out the trip with visits to the Oklahoma City Bombing site, Express Ranch, and the Oklahoma Stockyard City. Congratulations at Nationals, Kuna!

Kuna FFA members also traveled to TVCC in Ontario to participate in the district Livestock Evaluation CDE. Members demonstrated their ability to rank swine, sheep, and beef in order from best to worst, as well as present a set of oral reasons explaining their placing. Kuna did very well, having two teams place in the top five, and multiple high individual judgers. The Kuna 1 team consisted of Scott Hukill, Mark Nebeker, Jeni Hagler, and Kevin Brown and placed fifth. The Kuna 2 team placed second in the contest. This team was made up of Samantha Roberts, Gilbert Doan (top overall beef judger), Brett Blackstock (overall top swine judger), and Amanda Reynolds, (overall top sheep judger), and she was the second high individual overall. Cassie Curtis also participated and was fourth high individual.

In addition to all these CDE events, the Kuna FFA chapter is partnering with the Boise Valley FFA District to collect supplies for Camp River Run. This camp is designed to give children with life threatening diseases or disabling medical conditions the chance to experience Idaho’s great outdoors while providing necessary health care. Kuna FFA would like to invite the community to help us make this camp the best it can be. If you would like to donate any of the following items, you can drop them off at the Kuna High School Ag shop. Thank you for your help!
