Kuna FFA Competes at Boise Valley District Competition

By Savannah Stroebel, Kuna FFA Reporter

On December 7th, the Boise Valley District FFA held their annual Ag Mechanics, Job Interview and Greenhand Knowledge contests. These are only a few of district competitions that will be held throughout the year. The chapters in the BVD are Meridian, Notus, Vallivue, Kuna, Marsing, Homedale, Rimrock, Middleton, Ridgevue, Nampa, and Melba.

In Ag Mechanics there are six areas. Kuna FFA send Annie Bass for Arc welding, Nick Brodin for Oxy/Tig welding, Wyatt Bell for Tool I.D., Andrew Friedberg for Small engines, Zach Thompson for Electricity, and Ty Noble for Copper pipe fitting. The team placed second overall. Nick Brodin placed first high individual in Oxy/Tig Welding.

The Job Interview contest is a one person contest that teaches the students very important skills. First, the students choose an occupation in the agriculture field that they are interested in. They are instructed to create their own resume and cover letter as well as collect two letters of recommendation. They are judged on their writing abilities and formats. They also go through an actual interview, as if they were interviewing for the job they chose. They are judged on their interview skills. The Kuna FFA sent Naomi Kallmeyer from Kuna FFA placed 6th.

The Greenhand Knowledge test is a group competition for freshman only. The test contains questions about FFA knowledge. The freshmen, who are just entering their high school career answer questions about the history of FFA and what FFA stands for. It is a great way for the freshmen to get involved in FFA as they get a taste of one of the first competitions they can compete in. Kuna FFA did not send a greenhand knowledge team.

On behalf of the entire Kuna FFA Chapter, we would like to congratulate the winners of each competition and wish them good luck at their future state competitions.
